About Demo CD

Demo CD features several outtakes and demos, including the first appearance of "Everybody's Fool."

"Whisper 2002" has the same structure and lyrics as the Fallen version of the song, but begins with an instrumental intro that contributes to its apocalyptic tone. It sounds like something that may have appeared in the scores for The Lord of the Rings, but I'm not sure what it is actually from. This particular version has a deeper sound quality to it.

This is the first appearance of "Everybody's Fool." The intro is rougher, as is the guitar work throughout. The demo version was recorded before the music was completely polished for Fallen. The first part of the bridge ("Without ... lie") is not included in this early version. Only one other version of the song exists; this is the version that ended up on Mystary and Fallen.

"Everybody's Fool" is a bitter condemnation of the expectations placed on musicians and other performers by society. Everybody expects them to be a certain way, and so they feel pressure to conform to those expectations. This act ends up becoming who they are - "can't find yourself, lost in your lie." Amy Lee denounces the typical 'rockstar lifestyle' with this piece, realizing that the persona many public figures present "[isn't] real and ... can't save [them]." This is a very mature position for 20-year-old Lee.

"Imaginary (Mystary)" is the full version of "Imaginary", with the instrumental at the beginning of the song (as opposed to at the end of "Tourniquet" as it is on Fallen). Otherwise, it is exactly the same as the album version.

"Imaginary" is about escapism; Lee wishes to escape the world she feels trapped and abused by.

"Bleed" is simply a reiteration of "I Must Be Dreaming"; they are the same song, and this is the same version as is on Demos 2001-2002.

"Listen to the Rain" is the outtake from Fallen, originally intended to be part of "Eternal" but cut for length. It is included on pre-orders of the album, but only the instrumental survived on most copies of Origin.
